The kosher food market is expected to reach $28.85 billion by 2028 globally. With an increasingly popular industry, it is more important than ever to keep the integrity of kosher products.
That is where kosher bulk transportation comes into play. But how does kosher transportation work? Are there benefits?
Read on to learn more about the process.
How Kosher Transportation Works
There are two different ways that Kosher transportation can work. For product transportation options, the products are either transported packaged or unpackaged.
Packaged Kosher Bulk Transportation
Packed Kosher items come in packages. This could be anything from a disposable box to plastic bottles.
There are not a lot of concerns when transporting in this way.
Unpackaged Kosher Products
Not all products are in packages, though. For instance, some products need to move from one facility to the next and will be transported without packaging. For example, ketchup manufacturers could transport liquid sugar and vinegar with liquid tankers without a package.
But how does this work to make sure that the products inside the bulk transport truck stay good?
Depending on the contents of the truck, the tanks can either have heat or be refrigerated. However, there are other rules when transporting kosher goods in order for them to remain kosher.
For instance, the Kosher truck has to be a kosher tank. The tank can also not have held non-Kosher food for longer than 24 hours.
Maintaining Kosher Integrity During Transport
Clearly, if you have unpackaged goods, it can be difficult to keep the integrity of the goods during transport. However, that is vital for the kosher industry, and it is possible to keep its integrity.
A Kosher Wash
A Kosher wash can turn a non-kosher tanker into a certified kosher tanker. When this happens, a rabbi is usually present.
A standard clean involves washing the liquid out of the truck, cleaning it thoroughly, and then letting it sit empty for 24 hours.
There is also the option for a high-heat rinse for a more thorough clean. Workers boil water in the truck to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Again, a rabbi will be present.
Kosher Tanker Certification
In addition to the transport and cleaning process, typically, Kosher tankers are certified as Kosher by a rabbi.
To receive this certification, a rabbi will review the truck's records and confirm how ready the tank of the truck is. To stay certified, a trucker has to continue to submit information to a log about what it carries.
Understanding Kosher Bulk Transportation
There is a lot that goes into kosher bulk transportation. Although this process can be simple for packaged goods, it can be complicated for unpackaged goods.
However, there are still ways for a kosher bulk transport truck to keep its integrity during this process.
